Srinagar, Nov 22 (KNO): The three-day “Know Your Artisan” carnival under the "Soulful Kashmir" initiative came to a graceful close this evening at Sher-e-Kashmir Park, near Polo View, Srinagar, drawing praise from visitors and artisans alike for celebrating the spirit of handmade Kashmir. Organised by the Department of Handicrafts and Handloom, Kashmir, the event witnessed heavy footfall throughout its final day, as people gathered to interact with local craftsmen and explore Kashmir’s timeless crafts from papier-mache, walnut wood carving and sozni embroidery to willow wicker and pashmina weaving. “This is not just an exhibition, it is a connection of hearts,” said Abdul Rashid, a papier-mache artisan, speaking with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). “For years, we worked behind the scenes. Now people know our faces, our stories and our art. That gives us dignity.” Another artisan, who specialises in sozni embroidery, said the platform gave our work visibility and recognition. “When visitors hear about the hard work behind each piece, they value it more. That motivates us to keep the craft alive,” he said. Meanwhile, visitors described the carnival as a “living gallery of Kashmir’s soul.” "It is heartwarming to see artisans speak so proudly about their creations. Every product here feels authentic and alive,” said a visitor. As KNO reported earlier, a foreign tourist had praised the initiative, calling it “beautiful, real and original” and lauding it for promoting authentic craftsmanship over imported imitations. With applause and appreciation marking its conclusion, the "Know Your Artisan" carnival ended on a high note, reaffirming Kashmir’s place as a cradle of artistry, heritage and soulful craftsmanship—(KNO)
